Our History

In 1946, Hoffmann–La Roche launched the first Bepanthol product – an ointment containing 5% Panthenol. It was marketed under the name Bepanthen, and it quickly became popular among pharmacists and doctors for treating minor wounds, burns, abrasions, and irritations.
Over the next few decades, the Bepanthen ointment became a staple in medicine cabinets across Europe and Asia. New products continued to be launched under the Bepanthol brand, including creams, lotions, and gels for daily skincare.

Our Ingredient – Panthenol

About the Founders
Bepanthol was built on the vision and perseverance of our founders – Dr. Rudolf De Haën and Dr. Adolf Emmerich.
Dr. Rudolf De Haën was a distinguished chemist at Hoffmann–La Roche in the early 1930s. Intrigued by the potential benefits of Panthenol, he led the laboratory research to develop it into a medicinal product for skincare. His scientific rigor and commitment resulted in the discovery of Panthenol’s healing properties.
Dr. Adolf Emmerich recognized the commercial potential of Panthenol for non-prescription skincare. As Head of F+F (Predecessor of Roche Consumer Health), he led the development and launch of Bepanthen ointment in 1946. His entrepreneurial spirit transformed Panthenol from an obscure chemical into a popular skincare ingredient.
Thanks to the collective efforts of these visionaries, Panthenol was introduced to the world. Their scientific curiosity and perseverance built the foundation for the Bepanthol brand we know today.
